With public awareness about environmental issues at an all-time high, consumers, designers, architects, and builders increasingly are doing their part by choosing products that have a minimal impact on the environment. When it comes to flooring, the facts are clear: wood flooring is an environmentally friendly flooring option. Wood flooring is the most abundantly renewable flooring material available. Sustainable forest management makes it possible to harvest wood without any negative impact on the environment, because trees are a renewable resource that can be replaced time and time again. Wood is produced in a factory called a forest by a renewable source of energy called the sun. Growing trees absorb harmful carbon dioxide and release life-giving oxygen, making wood your green flooring choice.
We offer several green flooring options:
- Reclaimed hardwoods
What could be more “green” than diverting a renewable resource from the landfill? Pre-used hardwood floors can be any color, but after the installation will be sanded down to the raw wood, then stain color of your choice will be added. Our Monocoat finish is a one-step process for stain and finish and has no adverse impact on the air quality of your home or business – it’s got ZERO VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds).
- FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified hardwoods
FSC has developed a set of Principles and Criteria for forest management that are applicable to all FSC-certified forests throughout the world. There are 10 Principles and 57 Criteria that address legal issues, indigenous rights, labor rights, multiple benefits, and environmental impacts surrounding forest management. See www.fscus.org for more information.
- Tile
Ceramic, porcelain, terra cotta, glass and natural stone tiles are made from the earth to start. We offer many tile selections that are made from recycled products as well, making them a wise choice for a low impact on our environment.
- Carpet
We offer a wide selection of carpets made from natural fibers, such as wool and various types of grasses, as well as carpets made from 100% recycled materials. Carpet can be recycled repeatedly without the loss of any aesthetic or performance properties.
- Laminate – Green Laminate flooring
Is largely composed of recycled materials like wood fibers or recycled paper. The wood core is constructed of recycled waste wood fibers that are pressed into a layer that gives the laminate the feeling of hardwood flooring. The top layer is post-consumer paper products.
